We caught up with Like a Local series illustrator Mantas Tumosa to find out what inspired the stunning series covers...
Tell us about yourself?
I am a designer and illustrator with a big passion for arts, sport, and technology.
What inspired you to become an illustrator?
Since I was a kid I always loved art and drawing. Being in the art world helped me naturally to evolve from a pencil artist to a digital illustrator.
When you were first briefed about Like a Local, how did you approach it?
I started by doing research about each city. I was looking into a lot of images online, trying to feel the vibe of the cities and step into the locals' shoes: how they see things and perceive surrounding areas.
Were there any challenges in getting it right?
I received very well-defined briefs and the main challenge was just about staying in line with the illustrative style across the illustrations.
What inspired the style of your illustrations on the book jackets?
A bold and minimalistic approach is my signature illustrative style. I applied this style to the jacket illustrations.
Do you have a favourite from the series so far?
I like all of them. Each illustration tells a story.
What are some of your own favourite local hangouts spots in London?
Probably my local one - the Mayflower. One of London's oldest pubs.
