Information for Educators

Enter the wonderful world of non-fiction!

DK Super Readers is an evolution of the ever popular DK Readers series, which has sold over 600,000 copies.

For readers aged 3 to 11, the series explores the exciting world of dinosaurs, animals, natural wonders and more! All while developing vital non-fiction reading skills. Each title integrates science, geography, history and nature topics. The five levels increase in complexity and developmental appropriateness.

Research by the Department for Education (DfE), the Education Policy Institute and Renaissance Learning found a learning loss of up to 2 months in reading in primary pupils. Disadvantaged pupils were disproportionately behind expectations*. DK Super Readers is here to get learners back on track. The benefits of non-fiction reading include becoming more knowledgeable and developing a thirst for learning as well as improving cognitive knowledge acquisition, concentration, information gathering, critical thinking and study skills.

Choosing a DK Super Reader Level

DK Super Readers has been levelled using MetaMetrics®: The Lexile Framework for Reading. This is a scientific approach to measuring both reading ability and the difficulty of materials on the same developmental scale.

For children who are learning English as a foreign language, we have also provided a Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) Level. The CEFR is organised into six levels: A1 Beginner, A2 Elementary, B1 Intermediate, B2 Upper Intermediate, C1 Advanced, and C2 Proficiency. This helps to identify the learner’s level and suitable learning materials.

The table shows the Lexile range for each of our levels alongside age range and year group. We have also provided an approximate Bookband colour and CEFR level.

Use the filters on the All resources section of the site to find suitable materials for the level you require.
