Connecting with TCLP leaders who make a difference

DK India recently kickstarted its 25th anniversary celebrations by hosting a group of young members from The Community Library Project (TCLP). The organization caters to underserved communities of Delhi/ National Capital Region, and comprises not just bibliophiles but also budding artists, photographers, and musicians who want to spread the love of learning and books through community outreach.

The visit began with a short presentation on DK by the HR team, followed by an interaction with the Knowledge team. Various titles that are being worked on in Knowledge, including  Habitats , The Football Book, and Picturepedia, were showcased by the editors and designers to give the TCLP contingent a peek into the world of DK. They were enthralled by the hard work and attention to detail that goes behind the making of each book. What captured their attention the most was On This Day, a title that the Knowledge 9+ team is currently working on. It encapsulates key events that took place on each day in a year, and the youngsters were keen to know what all happened on their birth dates!

The TCLP leaders later met Aparna Sharma, DK India’s Managing Director, and her Leadership team. It was a riveting session where they described the impact of TCLP on society and also asked inquisitive questions like the scope of publishing books in vernacular languages, and so on. Gaurav, a core member of TCLP and an aspiring photographer, spoke about the love that students show for DK books in TCLP libraries, summarizing it in following lines: “ DK ki books mein pictures bolti hai “ (Pictures speak in DK books)”. The engaging visit concluded with an informal lunch and more discussions.
