PURPOSE OF ROLE

To provide design support to the design team across a range of non-fiction titles, on a range of design tasks as required, ensuring that all your work is produced according to schedule.
 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Follow and adhere to schedule, workflow, and brief for your work and produce accurate, well-designed pages.
  • Carry out a range of design tasks as and when required, for example:
    • Research subjects to ensure images are factually accurate and depth.
    • Help with picture research, picture management and archiving.
    • With guidance, design spreads in accordance with the project’s design brief.
    • With guidance, carry out technical tasks.
    • Follow the “design style guide” for your project, and liaising with seniors and editors to produce illustration visuals and page designs at every stage of a project’s production.
  • Check your own work and maintain good editorial accuracy and quality, from start to finish of the production process (plotters).
  • Manage own workload and organize work to meet deadlines and ensure the target dates are met.
  • Maintain high standards of creativity and quality at every stage of the process in adherence to the DK style guide.
  • Work with/ have regular dialogues with London, your senior team and managers to ensure that design is accurate and up-to-date as well as on your status and progress of your work
  • Liaise with designers and DTP on the production of the page layouts as and when required.
  • Report on overall schedule and weekly progress to Art Editor, Project Art Editor, Senior Art Editor or Managing Art Editor and senior team. Also, flag up any issues that may arise.
  • Adapt text for different formats in media if required. Update progress reports; record minutes of meetings and conference calls regularly
  • Maintain excellent communication channels with the entire book team (in-house) for the duration of the project.
  • Close contact on a daily basis with all internal departments and when necessary external suppliers, authors and external editors
  • If required, work on the development and styling of new projects, and create presentation material to an agreed brief.
