Author bio

Dr Bhaswati Bhattacharya, a practising physician-scientist, has spent over 20 years specializing in integrating 'good medicine' with Ayurveda. Based out of New York, but rooted in India, she serves as clinical assistant professor in the department of medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College, was a senior Fulbright scholar in medicine in India where she researched ancient Ayurveda protocols to enhance immunity, pursued a mid-career PhD in Rasa Shastra at Banaras Hindu University, and served as Fulbright Specialist in public health/integrative medicine & on NIH committees evaluating unconventional medicines. She holds an MD in medicine (Rush University), PhD in pharmacology (Columbia University) and Ayurveda (Banaras Hindu University) and an MPH in international health (Harvard). A documentary film featuring her work, Healers: Journey into Ayurveda is shown on The Discovery Channel. She has often appeared in different media, including The Martha Stewart Show, The Today Show, and 60 Minutes. Her first book, Everyday Ayurveda published in 2015 by Penguin Random House, was a bestseller in India. It gained traction mostly through word-of-mouth and goes in for a reprint every year.

So, what does the science say?

Dr Bhaswati Bhattacharya gets to the heart of this often-asked question about Ayurveda, unpacks the evidence behind the ancient healing system, and shares its wisdom for good health and longevity.

She does this while taking the reader on a journey, much like the one she took as a board-certified MD practicing medicine out of New York. As she answers the question of how we heal and why we heal, she delves into the three pillars of Ayurveda health ' ahara (diet and food), vihara (lifestyle and activities), and aushadha (medicine), and shares tonics, recipes, and ancient advice.

Structured around the rhythms of daily living, The Ayurveda Life is at once personal, prescriptive, and philosophical. It is as much a book about how to live as it is about how to heal. Here, Ayurveda is not a relic of ancient belief, but a living, breathing science and way of life. Here, the body, mind, and nature come together to help you slow down, pay attention to your body, and live a healthier, more harmonious life.
