“I’M ALWAYS ON A QUEST TO FIND THAT TALENTED CREATOR...”

Brook Farling, Senior Editor, DK Alpha

My commissioning interests include cooking, photography, gardening, fitness, self-help, personal finance, and craft and hobby. I’m always on a quest to find that talented creator who possesses the ability to teach readers a new craft while also connecting with a broader audience.

My career in publishing began over 30 years ago when I started as a compositor with Macmillan Computer Publishing. I’ve occupied a variety of roles with different publishers in the years since, but my editorial career with Alpha DK began in 2011. Throughout my career with DK, I’ve signed and published books on everything from BBQ and baking to yoga and beekeeping. Some of the titles I’ve published include Joshua Weissman’s Texture Over Taste, Gustavo Tosta’s Guga: Breaking the Barbecue Rules, The Mediterranean Diet Cookbook for Beginners, and Benji Xavier’s The Rebel Diet

When I’m not immersed in creating books for DK, I like to take pictures, play golf, travel, tend to my overgrown yard, and spend time with my family.

A book I’m proud of…

I’m proud of every book I’ve published, and every project has been an adventure, but the title I’m most proud of is the New York Times-bestseller ArnieTex—it’s the perfect example of a book that instantly resonated with a creator’s audience while also reaching a new audience.

A book I wish I’d published…

If there is one title I wish I had published, it’s probably Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat by Samin Nosrat.
