DK TRAVEL

“I’M SPECIFICALLY INTERESTED IN THE TRANSFORMATIVE POWER OF TRAVEL.”

Lucy Richards , Senior Editor, DK Travel

My goal is simple: to commission and edit books that ignite imaginations and inspire readers to explore the world, near or far.

My commissioning focus is travel, including narrative non-fiction titles for our DK RED imprint. I’m specifically interested in the transformative power of travel – think compelling travelogues about life-changing journeys, enlightening cultural reflections, and beautiful tomes that celebrate how exploring the world profoundly shapes who we are. My working days are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

A book I’m proud of…

I’ll never not be proud of acquiring and publishing DK’s first travel narrative title You Deserve Good Gelato by Kacie Rose, which became an immediate New York Times bestseller. But a more recent title that’s particularly close to my heart is Britain’s Weird and Wonderful Countryside. Written by journalist and natural history enthusiast Hannah Roe, this entertaining celebration of Britain’s natural world will inspire even the least outdoorsy among us to get outside and discover the wonder hiding in plain sight.

A book I wish I'd published...

A book that really captivated me, and one I wish I'd published, is Felicity Cloake's One More Croissant For the Road. While I'm no cyclist, Cloake's journey through France’s landscapes and regional flavours had me longing to explore new lands on two wheels, fuelled by local delicacies. Her ability to evoke such a vivid sense of place and palate, celebrating each region's unique character, is just joyful.
