The team I lead specialises mainly in science and nature.
The latter was my main focus when I started at DK, right at the beginning of my career, and I feel increasingly strongly that understanding the natural world is fundamental for a happy future on this planet. Publishing science has been a revelation, though.
I struggled with science in an educational setting. I now know that it was the way it was taught and the books we had available that were the barrier. Finding ways to explain things through visuals is what unlocked it for me. I find science incredibly exciting now!
It’s such an enjoyable and satisfying creative process working with experts – merging the skill of our editors and designers at making information accessible with that deep expert knowledge. As a team, we’re driven by curiosity as anybody who works with us will soon find out. We love to ask plenty of questions in our quest to find the best way of explaining things. We’re always looking for experts and authors who share our passion for nature and science communication and are happy to feed our curiosity – as well as that of our readers, of course.
A book I’m proud of…
I’m particularly proud to have published Humans with an international team of experts and Alice Roberts as Editor-in-Chief. The collaboration was especially creative, making for a really unique book.
