"WE ARE ALWAYS ON THE LOOK-OUT FOR AMBITIOUS, VISUALLY-LED IDEAS WITH GLOBAL APPEAL"

Gareth Jones, Managing Editor, History & Culture, DK Knowledge

I am incredibly proud of the books that we publish in Knowledge, the ambition and care that goes into all of them, and their enduring global appeal.

The reader is front-and-centre in everything we do – from making complex information interesting and accessible to re-inventing familiar topics in fresh and innovative ways, and expanding into new subject areas and under-served markets.

My team and I work with experts across the fields of history and culture, and are always on the look-out for ambitious, visually-led ideas with global appeal – especially those that offer something different. I am keen to hear from agents, authors, and subject-specialists, who understand the value of what we do and are keen to be involved in the next chapter of our publishing.

A book I’m proud of…

It is almost impossible to choose only one book, but a 2026 title that exemplifies the key qualities of a Knowledge title is A History of Horror, Fear & The Uncanny. A unique global history of a hugely popular subject, it combines the essential insights of a team of experts with carefully curated photographs, artworks, and artefacts, a bold, modern page design, and a gloriously gory cover finish – the ultimate gift for horror fans!

A book I wish I’d published…

A book (well, two) that I wish I had published are Manuel Lima’s The Book of Trees and The Book of Circles. Both achieve that elusive combination of scholarly depth and broad commercial appeal, offering a beautiful and fascinating account of the ways in which people have visualized information through the centuries.
